My first experience of exploring batik was at secondary school. This resist process of using wax and dyes is magical and always carries the element of the unknown.
I've always loved colour, shape and fabric designs. From a very young age I was exposed to art through my father painting scenery for major theatre productions.
I'm inspired by pattern, shape and colour around me in my everyday life.
Some of my designs are carefully planned whilst others are spontaneous just enjoying the flow of the wax onto the cotton. Watching the hot wax absorb into the fabric and then vibrant dyes seeping in always delights me.
I hope that the pleasure that batik gives me can be shared by others, filling them with joy and energy.
